The Writer's Group
Created & Presented by Shanna T. Melton
The Writer’s Group is a gathering of creative thinkers brought together to create new work. It was born out of a need for a creative writing community and has blossomed into a magnificent one with exceptional writers in the mix. Everything is discussed from writing techniques to life stories and we honor everyone’s experience by listening. We use prompts, art, discussion and other tools to motivate the writing process. Participation is required but sharing and feedback is optional.
This allows for the writer to worry less about having to hinder what they write and more about releasing their ideas.
People normally want to share and accept theconstructive feedback offered by other writers,
however, their choice to decline the opportunity is always respected.
Shanna T. Melton of guides the group and encourages a constructive space for new writing to develop. Shanna has built a career as a Poet, Painter and Art Consultant for the past twenty years.
Working and performing from Georgia through Canada while calling Connecticut home. As Founder of
Lyrical Voices Night of Poetry & Arts, Shanna has provided a stage for artists to share poetry, music
and visual art. The Writer’s Group is a workshop she created where the work can be done
and writers can support one another in the creative process.
The Writer’s Group includes people of all skill levels, genders, nationalities, ages and life experience. This allows for very unique perspectives and life lessons. Many people write for business but some do not associate writing with leisure or self care.
This is an opportunity for participants to release creative energy they may not tap into for various reasons
from a busy lifestyle to just not realizing the usefulness of creating for leisure.
Shanna can present this creative experience to venues in your community through guiding groups and
connecting participants with existing group members. This is a great way to encourage creative writing,
experiencing the creative process of other writers while enhancing the individual process and creating dialogue around writing ideas. Shanna has presented this workshop in all venues including a café, after school
programs, mental health centers and twice monthly at City Lights Gallery, Bridgeport, CT.
It is well received and supported by all who attend.
