Elizabeth Gilbert's Creative Workshop Notebook Entry #1

September 2, 2016

Hey Now!

I am currently taking an Elizabeth Gilbert's Creativity Workshop online.  It was suggested that we share our notebook entries with our peers to seek inspiration from their thoughts and creative ambitions.  I am sharing it on my website and in the workshop group so that I am not only adding my thoughts, but hopefully you will do so as well.  These are great ideas to consider.  There are seventeen workshops, so take this journey with me, maybe it will spark something in you as well.

Have a blessed day.

Love.

Shanna

Elizabeth Gilbert Creativity Course Notebook  Entry #1

What was the last thing you really wondered about?

I last wondered what I will do next.  After recently being laid off of my job of ten years, I have become open and curious about what God has in store for me next.  I have felt that I need to give God power and stop trying to have control when ultimately, I will end up where I need to be.  In wondering about my new chapter of life I have allowed visions of it to surface which inspired more wonder about when those visions will manifest.

When was the last time you experienced creative flow?

I last experienced creative flow after a conversation with a friend about giving thanks for my previous job and understanding the lessons that it contributed to my live.  The next evening I opened my notebook and allowed all that I felt and thought of to spill from my heart.  I also took a minute to reflect and give thanks for it because a lot of things I had not realized surfaced through the writing.

What did you love most of all when you were 8 years old?

I loved my parents most of all when I was 8 years old.  We had just moved back to Connecticut from California and we drove across country.  Despite the dysfunction that we experienced as a family throughout the years, we were absolutely family.  It was around that time that I was at an age where I was being more conscious about being conscious about love.  They are still what, or who, I love most of all.  Them and art.

What was the last passage from a book, piece of music, or work of art that really inspired you?  What drew you to it?

I was listening to a webinar with Mastin Kipp where his guest said “you do not have to get it right, you just have to get it going”.  That really resonated with me as I am procrastinator as a result of being a perfectionist.  I recently fought that in order to publish my collection of poetry that I had completed a long time ago, but couldn’t get past obsessing over long enough to publish.  When I did, it was well received and the poetry seemed to help those who read it as it had helped me over the years.

What are you doing when you feel most beautiful?

Sharing poetry and exhibiting.  Which is strange because it seems it would be less about me and more about the art.  It is funny though because it feels like a layer is being peeled from the inside when I get the energy of what I create into the world.  I feel lighter, there is laughter and I give what I often create in silence a voice.  Feeling beautiful  is seemingly synonymous with feeling purposeful and proactive about my work.

What are your superpowers?

I can connect people to what they need.  Creativity and the ability to embrace it, or rather become a medium for it.  Loving people.  The ability to turn empty spaces into art. Cooking.

What would you do for a living if you were not afraid of anything?

Travel the world and inspire other to create.  I would run writing workshops and have speaking engagements where I would discuss the creative process.  This would in turn open the opportunity to discuss and learn from the experiences of others.  I would document this journey and it would add to, and inspire, more art.

What themes do you see?

What is exciting to you?

What do you want to use this course to start pursuing or start creating?

The theme I see is the need to create and allow that creativity to become human connection.  Love.  The fact that my purpose exists in creativity.

The idea of creating spaces where I can learn and create with others inspires me.

I would like to use this course to start pursuing my vision of a grand scale creative workshop series that would inspire others to create without limitations or fear.
